The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has apologized to Choma residents and football fans in Southern Province for moving the Green Eagles Football Team home matches for CAF games away from Choma’s Independence Stadium to Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka.
But all the MTN premier league home games will be played in Choma at Green Eagles home ground because it’s only CAF games that have been taken away from Choma.
ZNS Deputy Commandant and Chief of Staff Alick Kamiji said the decision was caused by various reasons that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) advanced after inspection, ranging from limited seating capacity to lack of an appropriate training pitch for
visiting teams.
Major General Kamiji said the ZNS command had learnt lessons from the inspection by CAF and has already started refurbishment of the stadium.
He is also appealing to the corporate world and various stakeholders to come on board and help address other concerns raised by CAF if Green Eagles Football Team home football matches are to be played in Choma.
Major General Kamiji was speaking in Choma during the Green Eagles football club awards presentation ceremony.
And Green Eagles Football Club chairperson Jim Kafumukache said renovation and furnishing of the Independence stadium has advanced.
