Granddaughter Sets Grandmother’s House On Fire, Killing Her

A-77-year-old woman of Lutuna Village, Kambilombilo area of Lufwanyama has allegedly been murdered by her granddaughter in a horrific act of arson

According to eyewitnesses Belifa Kondowe  35, the suspect was intoxicated and she set  Lebani Pilioni the victim’s grass-thatched house on fire while she was sleeping, burning her to death.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba said the incident occurred on June 2, 2024, around 19:00hrs.

Mr Mweemba said the victim’s daughter, Joyce Lumbwe, reported the incident to the police, stating that her mother was killed by her granddaughters, who had a history of disputes with the family.

He said the suspect torched the house, and despite efforts to rescue the victim, she succumbed to the flames.

Mr Mweemba said the police have apprehended the suspect, and a docket has been opened.

The body has been deposited at Kitwe Central Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
