GPZ Chairman Sounds Alarm on Chingola’s Crime, Environmental Issues

By Staff Witer
Chingola is facing a concerning rise in crime, primarily driven by unemployment and youth neglect, according to Golden Part of Zambia (GPZ) Copperbelt Provincial Chairman Martin Simwaba.

Mr Simwaba who is also aspiring for Chingola Mayoral sit for 2026, attributes this surge to young people being forced out of copper dumps, their previous source of income, leaving them with limited options and pushing them toward criminal activities.

He said the situation is dire, with incidents of attacks on innocent citizens, house break-ins, and theft increasing.
Mr Simwaba said research suggests that youth crime rates are raising, influenced by factors like family dynamics, parental abuse or neglect, and socioeconomic conditions.

He has called for urgent attention and action from leaders to restore safety and dignity in Chingola,  including addressing unemployment, supporting youth, and holding leaders accountable for environmental and infrastructure degradation.

Mr Simwaba said the pollution from Chinese copper yards exacerbates the issue, disregarding the community’s well-being and contributing to environmental and infrastructure deterioration.
