Govt to set up mechanism to monitor teacher deploymet

Education Minister, Douglas Syakalima has disclosed that the ministry is putting mechanisms in place to ensure that when a teacher is deployed to a particular area they should operate in that locality.

Mr Syakalima says this will help cushion teacher shortage in most schools across that country.

“With the recruitment of 30,000 teachers next year, as a ministry we want to see to it that there is equitable distribution of teachers countrywide so that the teacher pupil ratio can be reduced, the country currently has teacher deficit of about 45,000, but this will be addressed through the employment of teachers,” he said.

Mr Syakalima also said that the ministry will also ensure that there is equitable distribution of schools to all parts of the country.

He said that the previous government left out some provinces in the distribution of schools under the World Bank funded project.

The Education Minister said the issue will be tackled; thereby balancing the distribution of schools to all parts of the country.

“President Hichilema’s desire is to have equitable distribution of schools so that every child has access to education facilities,” he said.

Mr Syakalima  was responsing to a question asked by Nalolo Member Parliament Imanga Wamunyina, who wanted to know whether Government has plans to construct additional schools in Nalolo district.
