Govt to invest $53 million in water in Muchinga, Northern province

Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister Jonas Chanda says Government is investing $53 million in water supply and sanitation projects in Northern and Muchinga Provinces.

The beneficiary districts are Kasama and Mbala in Northern Province and Nakonde and Mpika in  Muchinga Province.

Dr Chanda said this is under the African Development Bank supported Integrated Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

He said the project is targeting to provide clean and safe water and adequate sanitation services to 350, 000 people.

Dr Chanda said this in Kasama today when he called on Northern Province MInister, Bwalya Chungu.

He said the works include the rehabilitation of old water supply and sanitation infrastructure.

Dr Chanda said other works include the construction of new infrastructure such as Water Treatment Plants and Water Storage reservoirs.

The Minister said President Edgar Lungu has reaffirmed his commitment towards the implementation of ongoing water supply and sanitation projects across the country.

Meanwhile, Northern Province Minister, Bwalya  Chungu  has informed Dr Chanda that Government has released ZMK 29 million for the Kaputa water project.
