Govt to address water challenge in Mpulungu

Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister Jonas Chanda has assured Chief Chitimbwa of the Lungu people in Mpulungu that Government is addressing water challenges in  the chiefdom.

Dr Chanda who is in Mpulungu to check on the implementation of the USD 29 million Lake Tanganyika Development Project said President Edgar Lungu has sent him to check on progress of projects under his Ministry and also appreciate challenges that are being faced.

The Minister said this when he called on Chief Chitimbwa at his palace also informed the Chief that Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company will soon finalize the ZMK 167 million water project for Mpulungu.

And Dr Chanda has explained that the Ministry through the Lake Tanganyika Development Project in Mpulungu and Nsama Districts is transforming the livelihood of the population depending on the Lake Tanganyika.

He said this is through integrated natural resources management by supporting fishery co – management, small scale aquaculture and establishing Community Forests as well as Village Conservation and Management Committees.

The project is also improving social economic infrastructure by constructing schools, health facilities, access roads and Community Radio Stations among other demand driven and gender responsive community micro projects.

And Chief Chitimbwa has thanked President Edgar Lungu for ensuring that development is taken to all parts of the country.
