Govt Supports Vulnerable Farmers with Goats in Kalumbila District

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The government, through the Department of Community Development, has provided goats to vulnerable but viable farmer households in Kalumbila District under the Food Security Pack Programme (FSP).

This initiative aims to enhance food security and promote improved nutrition in the community.

During the pass-on ceremony, District Community Development Officer Susan Phiri noted that 60 goats were received in August 2023, benefiting 20 households. Each household received two nanny goats and one billy goat, with the condition of passing on two goats to the next beneficiaries in their communities.

The FSP program targets vulnerable farmers who are not supported by the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

It provides livestock, including goats, and allows for beekeeping and other animal husbandry activities.

The program has three components: rainy fed, wetlands, and alternative livelihood.

One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that it has enhanced livestock production in the community.
