Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has signed a Statutory Instrument to help re-constitute the composition of the Zambia Information Communication and Technology Authority (ZICTA) Board.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mr Mutati said ZICTA’s mandate has now expanded following the enactment of various pieces of legislation including the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, the Data protection and The Electronic Communications Transaction Act.
He said eight institutions were sitting on the ZICTA Board previously but upon signing the Statutory Instrument, it will reduce to four.
Mr Mutati said the new SI will define the role and responsibilities of the new board and Director General to be announced in due course.
He said the new licensing Act has been designed to improve penetration of internet subscription to 57 percent so that Zambia can become a digital hub.
