Govt set to dispose off Mukula logs

Government says it will soon start disposing off, all the impounded Mukula, Rosewood and other types of timber forfeited to the state across the country.

And Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu said the Mukula that is being held countrywide was impounded at a point when some timber traders attempted to illegally export it without proper documentation.

He said that the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commence, Trade and Industry, and other security wings have been engaged on ways in which the Mukula logs will be handled.

Mr Nzovu said that once the process is done of disposing off the logs, the proceeds will go towards the sustainability of the forests among other things.

He was speaking when he inspected the impounded Mukula and Rosewood logs in Livingstone and Kazungula border post in Southern Province.

And Southern Province Principal Forestry Officer said the current Mukula that is being held in Livingstone and Kazungula were impounded between 2014 and 2018.
