Govt must give KCM to Zambians

Dear Editor,

It has now taken many months after the Zambian government decided to get the mining business from Vendata to run Konkola cooper mines (KCM).

People are wondering what is going on? When do we expect a new investor as promised? Chingola, Chililabombwe and Kitwe have become ghost towns.

It is not only the effect of Covid-19 NO!

Economically these towns are not doing well because the mining industry is their financial hub.

This is completely no business in these three districts. People are wallowing in poverty.

Government should lease KCM to Zambian mine engineers, geologist, mineral engineers, technicians and others.

Let these technocrats form a consortium in order to revamp mining activities at KCM.

There is no need for foreign investors but we should instead allow Zambian elites and technocrats to run this company.

Government started training its mining engineers, geologists and other technocrats in 1964.

These squad should be given chance to run our mining industries.

In that way we shall retain labour and hard earned income for the government.

If Zambia is for Zambians this suggestion should be considered and do it pronto.
