Govt makes progress in reducing maternal mortality in Itezhi-Tezhi

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, says the government has made significant progress in addressing maternal mortality in Itezhi-tezhi District, Southern Province.

Mr Mutinta said that the government is currently constructing a fully furnished maternity annex at Mutenda Health Post 1 in Itumbi Ward, contracted to Malushoz General Dealers.

The MP expressed confidence that this development will contribute to reducing maternal deaths, aligning with President Hakainde Hichilema’s goals.

The Maternity Annex, funded through the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation, is expected to serve over 20,000 people.

The Member of Parliament emphasized that Itezhi-tezhi has faced challenges related to maternal mortality, exacerbated by malaria-related diseases affecting pregnant women.

Mr. Mutinta noted that this investment marks the district’s first-ever maternity annex, set to open for public use within a month.”
