Vice President, Inonge Wina, said government is geared to deliver relief food to all the thirteen districts of the Southern province.
Speaking on arrival at the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone, Mrs. Wina said government is aware that the drought experienced in the province and some other parts of the country has adversely affected agriculture.
Mrs. Wina said it is President Edgar Lungu’s desire that Zambians move out of hunger to becoming self-sufficient.
The Vice President has however encouraged Zambians to revive the backyard garden concept to improve the health status of the families.
Earlier, Southern Province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba, said the distribution of relief food has already started in six of the thirteen districts of the province.
Mr. Liomba also assured that no one in the province will die of hunger.
Meanwhile, Patriotic Front Southern Province Chairperson, Lawrence Evans, appealed to the Vice President to support the party in the province to prepare for the 2021 General Elections.
He has also appealed to the Vice President to empower the youths in the province.
The Vice President is accompanied to Livingstone by Commerce Minister, Christopher Yaluma and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU National Coordinator, Chanda Kabwe among others.
The Vice President is tomorrow expected to launch the Southern Province Investment and Tourism Exposition.
