Government says it has engaged South African Disaster Management Center to help with the rescue Mission of the trapped miners at Senseli Open Pit Mine tragedy in Chingola.
Chingola Constituency Member of Parliament Chipoka Mulenga said this has been done in collaboration with the South African Embassy in Lusaka and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit DMMU.
Mr Mulenga said this yesterday during the routine updated on the tragedy he said the experts is expected to be in the Country by tomorrow (today) to offer technical support as they want to assess the area.
Meanwhile Mr Mulenga who is also Trade and Commerce Minister said the rescue operations came to a standstill after a heavy downpour for the past two days.
He said the heavy rains had taken back works done to a week’s work, but works will continue in a safe manner until the mission is successful.
Mr Mulenga said Government has also prioritized the safety of rescue operators by scheduling operating hours at the Site.
He said the number of retrieved still remains at 12, with one person alive and 11 who died have been buried.
The tragedy mine accident involving over 30 miners occurred in the early hours of December 1, 2023.
