Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has dismissed as malicious, suggestions that it will shut down the internet from Thursday to Sunday next week.
Mr Malupenga said the claims are false and calculated to cause alarm among Zambians.
Government would like to assure Zambians both home and abroad that government remains committed to the free flow of information, even during the election period, the general citizenry have been advised to continue using the internet and other social media platforms responsibly and in conformity with the provisions of the law,” he said.
Mr Malupenga encouraged internet users to adhere to the Electoral Process, Cyber Security and the Penal Code Acts.
“Such laws prohibit the dissemination of falsehoods and inflammatory statements that have the potential to destabilize national peace, security and harmony” he said.
Mr Malupenga said this in a statement released to the media.
