GOVT addressing fish deficit

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Kampamba Chewe says government has made progress in reducing fish deficit in the country.

Mrs Chewe says from 2001 to date, Zambia has increased its fish production by over 1-hundred and 50 percent.

She says government is also still committing itself to increase production levels through the promotion of fish farming in different parts of the country.

Mrs Chewe who is also Kalulushi Constituency Member of Parliament said this when she handed over more than ten thousand fingerlings to fish farmers in Kalulushi’s Chibote area on the Copperbelt province.

Meanwhile, Chola Masenga, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked government for empowering them with fingerlings.

Mr Masenga said the action taken by government will enable many people especially youths to participate in aquaculture sub-sector.
