The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to environmental protection and enforcement.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba emphasized the importance of sustainable management of natural resources and compliance with environmental protection measures.
Speaking through Director of Environment Godwin Fishani Gondwe at the Ministerial Stakeholder Engagement in Lusaka, Dr. Chibamba highlighted the Ministry’s responsibility in ensuring sustainable environmental management.
The event, organized by the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) with support from Bread for the World (BFTW), focused on biodiversity conservation, compliance, and equitable resettlement policies.
CEJ Board Chairperson Vincent Ziba stressed the need to protect the rights and livelihoods of affected communities, particularly in sectors like mining and agriculture. He emphasized the importance of equitable resettlement policies to balance development and community well-being.
The meeting brought together government representatives, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to discuss key issues, including the National Biodiversity Strategy and resettlement policy implementation.
CEJ Executive Director Maggie Mwape welcomed the opportunity for learning and dialogue, acknowledging the challenges and opportunities in environmental protection and sustainable development.
Attendees included representatives from government ministries, Zambia Environmental Management Agency, and strategic civil society organizations.
