Give women equal opportunities- Nakachinda

Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Raphael Nakacinda, says there is need to give women equal opportunities for them to make positive socio-economic impact in society.

Speaking at the United Church of Zambia Bethlehem congregation, in Kafue to celebrate “mothering Sunday” in commemoration of women’s day, Mr Nakacinda recognized the contribution of women in their various portfolios of leadership.

Mr Nakacinda said there is need to also recognize President Edgar Lungu for prioritizing the welfare of women as evidenced by the unprecedented appointment of Ms Inonge Wina as the first female Vice President.

The Minister has since donated K40,000 towards women empowerment programmes and construction of a church ablution block.

He has further encouraged women to be entrepreneurial in order to reduce dependence on handouts.

And the Minister has called on the church not to relent in its effort to pray for politicians in order to get rid of what he termed as “toxic politics” which has now become a trend.

He said the church should reprimand politicians regardless of their status in order to discourage politics of tribalism and violence.

“President Lungu recognizes the role the church plays and that is why he encourages the church to pray for us politicians” he said.

And the hosting clergy, Reverend Dyson Goma has called for coexistence among citizens.

Rev Goma said no one should allow division to take route in society as that can not build any society.
