A-three-year-old girl of Lusaka’s Garden Township has drowned in a 110 liters plastic drum containing water at her house in the Kitchen.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that Shelly Smart 54, the grandmother to the victim woke up the victim round 05:00 hours to prepare her for school.
Mr Hamoonga said while she went to sweep outside the house, she left the child inside the house.
“When she came back into the house together with her daughter Cythia Banda who is the mother to the victim they searched for her and discovered her in the plastic container with water,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said Police visited the scene and inspected the body which was observed to be intact and a wooden stool was found beside the drum which the victim used to draw water from the drum.
He said this occurred on July 26, 2022, around 06:00 at house number 02/19 Garden Township.
The victim’s body has since been deposited at University Teaching Hospital awaiting post-mortem. Police have opened an Inquiry file.
