A Ghanaian Lawyer, Joseph Lawernce based in the United Kingdom has donated over 200,000 assorted books to the Zambia High Commission to help re-store public libraries in Zambia.
And Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Lieutenant General Paul Mihova (Rtd) described the gesture as amazing and said the donated books will give an opportunity to young people especially those in rural areas to develop a good reading culture as they will have books at their disposal.
High Commissioner Mihova said most Zambian public libraries have few or no textbooks and no supplementary materials for reading beyond the school curriculum adding that the donated books will support and enhance the
resources and services public libraries system provide to the community.
And Mr Lawrence said he decided to donate the books to Zambia because he wanted to support Zambian public libraries and provide re-creative activities like reading in communities.
“I am happy to partner with the Zambia High Commission by donating these books. To the beneficiaries of these books, I hope the books will change your lives in a good and positive way. Reading books has helped me to learn about the cultures of other people and I welcomed new perspectives about life. I discovered new ways of thinking and that is a form of education. Reading exposed my mind to many things that were intellectually stimulating and heightened my curiosity. I now pass on this knowledge to the people of Zambia,” he said.
