Get all ministerial vehicles, PSs directed

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Secretary to the Cabinet Simon Miti has directed all Permanent Secretaries to ensure that all ministerial vehicles are handed over by former ministers and surrendered to the ministry of works and supply for safe storage.

Dr Miti said the vacation of office by ministers and dissolution of parliament on May 14, 2021 makes it prudent that the assets are safeguarded in readiness for incoming ministers after August 12 general elections.

“All telecommunication gadgets such as surface tablets and phones must be surrendered to Smart Zambia,” he said.

Dr Miti said cabinet circular of April 29, 2021 provides clear guidelines to ensure that government properties and resources are handed over.

“I want public service workers to desist away from politicking and remain nonpartisan during the critical period of campaigns and elections, public service workers who will disobey the code of ethics and code of conduct will face disciplinary action,” he said

Dr Miti said despite the absence of cabinet, President Edgar Lungu will continue to run the government and will need permanent secretaries and other government officials to only monitor the government programs but to articulate policies to the general citizenry.

“I’m urging permanent secretaries and senior government officials to step in and ensure that there is no absence of service delivery, to this effect government will ensure a circular to highlight the new roles and functions of the PS’s to cover for the former ministers,” he said.
