Gender Activist Beauty Katebe has condemned a teacher at Eastern Girls Secondary School in Chipangali District, Eastern Province, for defiling a 14 year old grade 9 pupil from the same institution.
Ms Katebe paid tribute to Zambia Police Service for arresting the Social Sciences teacher.
She was dismayed to note that defilement cases were being perpetrated by people that children looked up to for hope and inspiration.
Eastern Province Acting Deputy Commanding Officer Kennedy Chibwe disclosed that a 14-year-old grade 9 pupil was allegedly defiled by a teacher, Jairos Mtonga, 48.
Mr Chibwe confirmed that the teacher allegedly defiled the minor in the school office when she, in the company of a friend, went for consultation.
The pupils reported the matter to the Headteacher who later reported it to the police.
