Gassing master minds may have military training

Vice President Inonge Wina says the people behind the gassing activities must have had some military training or background.

Mrs Wina says this is because the incidences are not isolated but well planned to destabilise the country.

She says the Police is, however, still trying to determine why the people behind these activities planned to destablise the nation.

The Vice President says government cannot allow the police to investigate the matter on political lines because it is a criminal matter that borders on the security of the nation.

Mrs Wina said police are on high alert and ahead of the perpetrators which is why many suspects believed to be behind the vice have been apprehended.

She said the situation in urban areas is now relatively quiet.

And Mrs Wina said the military personnel deployed on the streets are constantly being reminded of the rights of the people and that there are citizens who work during the night.

Mrs Wina has urged the public to welcome the soldiers because they are there to protect the interest of the citizens and property.

She said this during the Vice President’s question time.

And the Vice President has assured citizens that the coronavirus has not been detected in the country and no Zambia national abroad has been affected.

The Vice President said the 200 students in China have been quarantined and government has been sending support such as masks to ensure that they are safe.

She said government has also heightened surveillance at all entry points by ensuring that every person coming into the country is scanned.

She said this in response to Kachibiya Member of Parliament Martin Malama who wanted to know what measures government is putting in place to ensure that citizens are safe from coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Wina has also clarified that newly appointed Zambian Ambassador to the US, Lazarous Kapambwe has not been rejected by the United states government.

The Vice President said that he is just getting new diplomatic permits because he was just transferred from the United Nations where he had different accreditation.

Mrs WINA also clarified that government did not declare Former United States Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote as persona non grata.

She said government only complained to the American government concerning the conduct of the Former Ambassador and it was the United States government that recalled Mr Foote.
