FRA pays out over half a billion to farmers

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has paid out K595, 945,280.00 to farmers that delivered Grade A white maize during the on-going crop-marketing season.

FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe said that the total quantity of maize purchased so far as of July 25, 2023 is 146,948.50 metric tonnes.

Mr Chipandwe said the Agency has noted so far that the response from farmers is encouraging.

He has assuring other farmers across the country to deliver their crops to the nearest FRA depots as payments are made within the shortest period since funds are available.

“Further, farmers are assured of accurate scales that have been certified by the Zambia Metrology Agency.

“The Agency also wishes to remind farmers that as the harvesting season progresses, they should not sell all their produce, but only what is excess and after putting aside a variety of food for domestic future consumption. This is due to the fact that national food security begins at household level,” he said.

Mr Chipandwe said the excess harvest can thereafter be delivered to any nearest FRA depot and the Agency will buy the stock and keep in the National Strategic Food Reserves for future use as a nation.
