Four people die in Litawa road accident

Four people have died on the spot in a tragic road traffic accident after the vehicle they were travelling in plugged into Litawa River along Litawa road in Mongu.

The accident happened when the motor vehicle failed to ascend after crossing the bridge hence rolled backwards and plugged into the river.

Police Spokesperson Rea Hamoonga said involved was Toyota Surf unknown registration number which was being driven by Mubiana Evis who is currently on the run.

Mr Hamoonga has identified the victims as Matakala Mundia 46, of Liyande Primary School, Mufanga Fanwell 39, of Litawa village, Matomola Simunje 36, of Namengo area and Eliza Simagolwa 36, of Namengo area while three juveniles aged between two and eight years were treated and discharged.

He said the bodies of the deceased have since been deposited in Lewanika General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Mr Hamoonga said this happened on October 6, 2021 at around 04:30 hours in Mongu.
