By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Kelvin Mutale Sampa, a 50-year-old former Kasama Central MP, has been arrested by the Zambia Police Service in Lusaka for various offenses, including obtaining money by false pretenses, possession of counterfeit notes, and possession of paper or implements intended for forgery.

He allegedly obtained $80,000 from a Japanese national, Satoshi Sakamoto, by falsely claiming it would be used to purchase refined gold in Zambia.

However, this was not the case.

Additionally, Sampa was found with 49 counterfeit $100 notes, totaling $4,900, and paper resembling special currency manufacturing paper, along with other forgery implements.

These offenses, contrary to Sections 309, 370(c), and 351 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, occurred between June and September 2024 in Lusaka District.

Sampa has been formally arrested and charged, and will appear in court soon.

The Zambia Police Service urges the public to be cautious during financial transactions and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
