Former first lady does no show for DEC

By Staff writer
Former First lady Esther Lungu has failed to appear at the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for questioning.

Mrs Lungu was summoned to appear at the DEC today at 11:00 hours following the seizure of her 15 properties in Lusaka’s State lodge area.

And Lawyer representing Mrs Lungu, Makebi Zulu said that his client could not appear for questioning because the summon was served late.

Mr. Zulu said the summon should have been served in good time to allow Mrs. Lungu and her Lawyers to prepare before they appear at the Commission.

He said they have written to the Commission so that their Client can appear on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 11:00 hours.

Yesterday, in a letter of demand to DEC’s Director General, Mr Zulu, acting on behalf of Mrs Lungu asked the Commission to leave the said properties.

The Former First Lady said it is inappropriate for the commission to infringe on her rights to property solely based on their inability to conduct investigations professionally.

Mrs Lungu has claimed ownership of the 15 properties seized by the DEC in Lusaka’s State Lodge area.
