The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka, through its intelligence and Canine unit, have successfully apprehended Phabian Emmanuel Bomboko, a 41-year-old Tanzanian national and former convict residing in Chilanga’s Memosa area, for trafficking 504.8 grams of pure cocaine.
Drug Enforcement Commission Public Relations Officer Mwenge Mulenga said Laboratory tests have conclusively confirmed the seized substance to be pure cocaine, emphasizing the severity of the criminal activity.
Mr Mulenga said the arrest of Mr Bomboko is a notable achievement in dismantling a cartel believed to be importing drugs from countries within the region and the southern part of America.
He said the Commission expresses deep concern over the escalating trend of trafficking in hard drugs attempting to infiltrate our borders from East Africa. The arrest sheds light on the sophisticated operations of the drug cartel, and DEC remains committed to addressing this menace with utmost urgency.
Mr Mulenga said the suspect is in lawful custody and will be appearing in court soon.
The Commission urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may contribute to the ongoing efforts to eliminate drug trafficking within the country.
