Forest Rangers have dislodged Power Dynamos from the third position after overcoming the Kitwe giants at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.
The Ndola outfit edged Power 2-0 to jump to 38 points, eight position behind pacesetters Zesco United.
Prior to the match, Power were occupying the third position with 35 points but have slipped to fifth after the defeat.
Forest assistant coach Owen Kaposa said in a post-match interview that said the team will not leave anything to chance as they aim to play continental football for the second consecutive season.
“I congratulate the team for the victory; we really needed it, coming from a loss. I really loved the way the players conducted themselves in camp, they had to sit and talk over issues themselves. This is why you have seen the different ball game today,” said Kaposa,who was on the bench alongside Happy Sichikolo.
Head coach Tenant Chilumba, who is allegedly being sent on forced leave was not part of the technical bench on Sunday as speculation intensified on his future at the club.
Forest last season finished second on the log to clinch a spot in the CAF Champions League for the first time in the history of the club.
“Our objective is to play continental football again, as you saw the previous one we didn’t do well but we are hoping this time we can qualify to continental football. And looking at the table and points, I think it’s very important to get maximum points when you are playing at home,” he said.
Defender White Mwanabamba’s own goal put Forest in front in the first half before substitute Cameroonian Daily Echabe.
Echabe replaced Thomas Chideu in the second half.
Forest will face Lumwana Radiants on Wednesday in Solwezi.
