Fire has swept through Arkay investments limited in Mufulira in which assorted goods got burnt after the shop caught fire due to a suspected electrical fault.
Mattresses, TVs, fridges, stoves, plastic chairs and other assorted household electrical goods, whose value is not yet ascertained were burnt to ashes.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that the owner of the shop (Arkay Investments Limited) closed the shop after knocking off at 17:30 hours leaving everything intact and the all the electrical appliances switches off.
Mr Mweemba said at around 20:30 hours, members of the public called the police stating that the above-mentioned shop was on fire.
He said the fire brigade from Mufulira Municipal Council and Mopani Copper Mines were contacted and managed to put off the fire.
Mr Mweemba said most of the goods in the shop were burnt to ashes.
“The police visited the scene and made sure that the place was secured. No life was lost nor injured. Cause of fire not yet ascertained though an electrical fault is suspected,” he said.
