President Hakainde Hichilema welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino to State House this morning. The engagement underscored the robust partnership between Zambia and the world’s football governing body, focusing on enhancing technical and infrastructural support.
During the meeting, President Hichilema articulated his gratitude for FIFA’s unwavering support, which has significantly contributed to the development of football in Zambia. “Football is more than just a sport for players and administrators; it is a game for all, fostering health and generating numerous business opportunities,” Hichilema stated.
President Hichilema highlighted the importance of preparing footballers for life after their playing careers. He urged FIFA to consider implementing business training programmes to help players manage their earnings and secure their futures post-retirement or injury. “Our footballers deserve a dignified life after their active years on the pitch, and equipping them with business skills is crucial for this transition,” he said.
The Zambian leader also stressed the significance of maintaining harmony in football administration. He acknowledged that differences are inevitable but called on FIFA to continue promoting dialogue among stakeholders to resolve any disputes. “Constructive dialogue is essential in addressing and resolving differences in football management,” Hichilema remarked.

A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). This agreement will pave the way for the establishment of a FIFA Technical Centre in Zambia, a significant milestone in the nation’s football development efforts.
