The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has welcomed the initiative by the Luanshya Municipal Council to honour outstanding personalities including sportsmen and women for their contribution to the municipality.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says the association had offered to hold a football match as part of the celebrations for the many outstanding sports personalities to have come out of Luanshya.
“This is a very welcome development to honour sports men who have raised the flag of Luanshya town. FAZ will be at your disposal to support you in this regard. As FAZ we suggest that a match be held as part of the celebrations. We can discuss the details of the match befitting this occasion.
“Congratulations for providing Leadership in honouring our football legends, and it remains my sincere belief that other cities and towns will emulate your initiative,” Kamanga stated.
Among the nominees are former Roan United stars Happy Simfukwe, Happy Malama, Ginger Pensulo, Joel Bwalya, Dan Kabwe, Collins Mbesuma and John Lungu.
Others are former Mufulira Wanderers and National Team captain Dickson Makwaza and former referee Leah Namukonda.
The Luanshya Municipal Council approved a resolution to honour some outstanding personalities that had brought glory to the area and agreed to give them free residential.
