Football administrator, Bernard Moyo, has advised Zambia national team striker Fashion Sakala to apologize to coach Avram Grant over his recent phone call conversation that has sparked controversy.
Earlier this year, Sakala made a negative comment against Grant in a leaked phone conversation with FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala.
Since then, Grant left out a controversial Sakala from the Chipolopolo squad that successfully competed in the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup qualifying campaign.
Moyo, the former Chingola Leopards Chairperson, believes that Sakala should take the high road and apologize to Grant as a sign of humility and respect.
“Regardless of who was right or wrong in the conversation, Fashion Sakala should humble himself and apologize to Coach Grant,” Moyo said. “Coach Grant is older and more experienced, and as such, he deserves respect. Apologizing would show that Fashion is willing to put the team’s interests ahead of his own ego.”
Moyo’s comments come at a time when the Zambia national team is preparing to compete at the 2025 Africa Cup in Morocco.
By apologizing, Sakala would not only be showing respect to his coach but also demonstrating his commitment to the team’s success. As one of the team’s key players, Sakala’s actions could have a significant impact on the team’s morale and performance.
Meanwhile, Sakala is currently enjoying good form in Saudi Arabia.
Last October, Sakala became the all-time top goal scorer for Al-Fayah Football Club.
“I regard this achievement as a blessing as it came in fewer games than anticipated. To be honoured again, following my award as the highest goal scorer in a single season for Alfayah FC a few months ago makes it even more special. I am truly overwhelmed with appreciation,” he said after the achievement.
