A family of Chingola’s Maiteneke SNDP area has been left homeless after fire swept through their home destroying property worth thousands of Kwacha.

The fire is believed to have started around 15:00 and was put off by the neighbors as the owner of the house was not home when it started.

Goliath Kapepa the owner of the house expressed shock and said the incident is unfortunate.

Mr Kapepa said the cause of the fire is not known.

Mr Kapepa added that the amount of property lost is not yet known.

“The beddings and the children’s school books have been burnt to ashes. My small children were home but luckily they went to play at the neighbor’s home, but one of the neighbors noticed smoke coming out and went to check, and it was at this point she saw that the house was on fire, “he said.

The neighbors helped to put out the fire with buckets but a lot of property has been lost.

And Maiteneke ward council walter chizuma who visited the scene sympathized with the family.

He said that he will engage the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and other well-wishers to intervene as the family need help to start over.

Mr Chizuma said it is sad all school necessities for the children were completely burnt

He said he will do what he can in his power to ensure that the family is taken care of.
