Fair Fountain Academy in Court for failure to subscribe for waste collection

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Fair Fountain Academy and its Director Trevor Mubita have appeared before the Senior Resident Magistrate Mambwe Mukonde, on one count of failure to subscribe with a licensed solid waste provider in the designated Zone, and Allowing Fair Fountain Academy to operate without subscribing with a licensed solid waste provider, respectively.

This is contrary to the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act No. 20 of 2018 of the Laws of Zambia.

Solwezi Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa said that, it is alleged that since January 24, 2022 did and has continued to operate or conduct business without subscribing for waste management services with a licensed solid waste service provider in the service zone nearest to the school.

Particulars of offence against Mr Mubita allege that on and since January 24, 2022 being the Director, Manager or Shareholder of Fair Fountain Academy with his knowledge did perpetuate and occasion or allow the continued operation of the school without subscribing for waste management services with a licensed solid waste service provider in the service zone nearest to the school.

On Monday February 21, 2022, Mr Mubita appeared before Court for plea where he pleaded not guilty to both counts charged against him and the school.

The Senior Resident Magistrate Mukonde has since adjourned the matter to Wednesday March 16, 2022 for commencement of trial.

Ms Chirwa said the Council is encouraging all business owners and Solwezi residents to ensure that they subscribe to licensed solid waste service providers in their respective zones for waste collection.
