Extension of water network system begins in Chipulukusu

The rehabilitation, extension of the water network system and the refurbishment of 22 disused water kiosks in Chipulukusu Township of Ndola has started.

And Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company (KWSC) Director of Engineering Bernard Phiri has disclosed the development, that under phase one of the project, three hundred residents of Chipulukusu will have access to clean water.

Eng Phiri said that the utility is working with the Local Civic Leadership in the area to ensure that residents have clean water.

“Chipulukusu residents have for years been drinking water from dug up wells. Previously, we mounted water kiosks in this part of Ndola, but, unfortunately, the water points were vandalized. We are urging residents to assist us in protecting this infrastructure,” He said.

Several hundreds of households in Chipulukusu are further earmarked to benefit from the latest project that KWSC is undertaking in the area. Under phase one of the initiative, KWSC will rehabilitate a stretch of about two kilometers of the water network in Chipulukusu. KWSC plans to connect Chipulukusu from its ltawa Water Treatment Plant.

The refurbishment of disused water kiosks and improvement of the water network system by KW SC started last month. The latest water improvement project in the area will cost KWSC over Three point One million Kwacha. Chipulukusu and Kaloko areas are among the two remaining Peri Urban areas which need further water network services.

KWSC has rolled out and completed major water projects in a number of town ships both in Ndola and Luanshya Districts that are being supplied and serviced by the utility.
