Exercise patience as you recover assets

By IREEN MULENGA
The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) is appealing to President Hakainde Hichilema to exercise caution and patience as government embarks on recovering assets that are believed to have been stolen from Zambians by the previous regime.

Over the weekend, President Hichilema disclosed that the first asset recovery of property believed to have been bought using public resources will be announced in a few days’ time.

But FODEP Executive Director George Chimembe said that while he is in support of this move, he is urging the head of state to allow the investigative wings of government to carry out their work without any influence.

“As FODEP we are in support of Government effort to recovery the property that has been stolen from the Zambians, but we like to appeal to President Hichilema to allow the investigating wing to do their job well, “he said.

He has further advised the government to ensure cases that will be brought forth are thoroughly investigated and not inspired by malice or revenge.
