Ex-convict nabbed for murder

Police in Southern Province have arrested an ex-convict and lunched a man hunt for another for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old woman.

The body of the woman was found half naked with a deep around the neck in a communal rubbish pit.

Acting Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Alfred Nawa has identified the victim as   Dorika Kaumba and one suspect who is an ex-convict has since been apprehended.

He said Trust Kaambo 31, who was renting near Dorika’s residence, has been picked in connection with the murder whilst his accomplice Hilary Mwiinga is on the run but a manhunt has been launched to bring him to book.

Mr Nawa said the two are habitual criminals and were recently released from prison on April 16, 2022.

He said Information on the ground is that the two were seen by two young boys beating the victim.

Mr Nawa said the body was found with a deep cut on the neck near the right shoulder and the body was half naked.

He said that brief facts of the matter are that, on Friday April 22, 2022 around 08:00h Hours the now victim left home for work at a restaurant at Njolamwanza Market, in Monze and did not return home.

Mr Nawa said the following day April 23, 2022 around 07:00 Hours Kaumba’s grandmother identified the underwear (pant) of her granddaughter and saw some struggle marks near the crime scene (the said rubbish pit).

She became curious and went on to search in an unfinished building near the pit where she again identified the victim’s handbag with clothes inside and a green plate which contained nsima which was found spilled on the floor,” he said.

He said the body was discovered on April 24, 2022 around 10:00 Hours.
