UPND Alliance Media Director Thabo Kawana says the report that Ndola Teaching Hospital (NTH) is conducting premium health services in respect of COVID-19 makes sad reading.
Mr Kawana said it unacceptable that Covid-19 care should be turned into a class issue where only the rich are presumably given the best chance to stay alive.
He said that all Zambian citizens and families, rich and poor are alike and have been equally affected by the Covic-19 pandemic.
Mr Kawana said that all must be given an equal and equitable opportunity to receive critical care if and when they need it.
“We urge the Ministry of Health to verify this report and indicate to the country whether, as far as our public healthcare system goes, the rich enjoy more of a right to life than the majority poor.
“We take the unflinching view, that critical care in respect of COVID-19 must be delivered on an equitable basis as may be required or needed by a patient, regardless of class,” he said.
