Escalating RTAs worry Govt

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali says Government is alarmed by escalating number of road accidents in the country.

Mr Tayali said the number of road accidents increased by 28 percent last year.

He said the country recorded 32,372 road fatalities in 2021, while 2020 had 28,484 and 2019 experienced 30,648 fatalities.

Mr Tayali said this in a Ministerial Statement delivered in parliament yesterday on the escalating number of road accidents.

He said Government will ensure scaling up road traffic enforcement and constructing a dual carriage way between Lusaka and Ndola as part of the measures to curb road accidents.

Mr Tayali said Government will not allow road fatalities to continue unabated, attributing the fatalities to negligence by some motorists and bad state of some roads
