Epiroc Zambia has officially handed over a solar powered borehole to Chiwempala Combined School in Chingola today.
The borehole comes with a hybrid solar pump, 500 litres overhead, construction of a security fence around the solar panels at a total cost of K200, 000.
The school had water challenge for a long time and the Chingola Metro Rotary Club through the President Musa Kasonka Jr lobbied for Support from Epiroc to repair the faulty water system.
The Company through their employees and support from management raised the money and funded the project from scratch.
Epiroc Country Manager Patrick Chanda said that he was pleased to hand over the water facility to Chiwempala Combined School.
Mr Chanda said the company is confident that the water system will bring an end to the previous challenges of accessing safe clean drinking water for both the school and the surrounding Community.
“As Epiroc we recognized the global need for safe water and we are contributing positively to the UN goal of clean water and sanitation.’ Water for all’ .The Organization works to provide people in need with clean drinking water.” He said.
And the Head Teacher of the School Jonathan Nkandu thanked Epiroc for the great generosity of funding the project and bringing clean and safe water to the school.
Mr Nkandu said the water problem that the school had for a long time has come to an end today.
“We are very grateful to Epiroc for this kind gesture of bring Water to the school, we promise to you that the asset you have given us will be highly treasured and we will make every effort to guard it from any form of vandalism,” he said.
And Bridget Kayombo who spoke on behalf of the pupils thanked Epiroc Company for the noble gesture.
She said what Epiroc has done will be a footprint to the School and forever be remembered because water is life.
Community member from the surrounding School Lucy Lungu also thanked Epiroc for the wonderful work they have done to the School.
She said the community was faced with the same challenge and sometime they could stay for two weeks without water and the school will now provide water for the all community.
And Chingola District Commissioner Agnes Tonga also thanked Epiroc for partnering with the Government through the Leadership of President Lungu for bringing development in the area.
The DC was accompanied by the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Noah Simulunga, Former Mayor Titus Tembo, former Chingola Member of Parliament Mathew Nkuwa and PF parliamentary candidate for Chingola constituency Michelle Kazala.
