Electric cable stolen, paralyze water supply in Butondo

Unknown people have stolen a 50 meter electricity cable which supply power to a Mulonga
Water facility (MWSC) interrupting water  supply to Butondo Township in Mufulira.
The suspected thieves dug up the cable which supply electricity to Butondo Booster station.

MWSC Acting Public Relations Manager Bright Mtonga confirmed the theft.

Mr Mtonga said the Company had reported both to Zambia Police and ZESCO.

He said the unfortunate development mean that water supply to Butondo will be interrupted until
the cable is replaced.

Mr Mtonga said Mulonga have dispatched a bowser to distribute water.

He referred further queries to ZESCO since it is their supply line.

Mr Mtonga said MWSC has bemoaned the escalating levels of vandalism and thefts which were detrimental to the company’s operations.

He said recently the company had experienced another thefts were unscrupulous individuals dug up a stretch of 50 meters and stole sewer steel pipes.

Mr Mtonga said that the particular incident happened in Chingola and the 14 inch four pipes stolen
were worth K32, 000.

He said that vandalism and thefts were escalating at an alarming level which resulted in unnecessary service interruptions.
“We call upon our customers to be vigilant and help the company combat this scourge which is a threat to continuous service provision. Our appeal also goes to scrap metal dealers to refrain from purchasing suspected stolen items. We are working with the police and soon all the perpetrators of this vice will be brought to book,” He said.
