Elderly women should be celebrated-Rashida Mulenga

Former Kalulushi Mayor Rashida Mulenga says elderly women should be celebrated because they are an inspiration to the new generation.

Ms Mulenga said elderly women in the communities help in shaping the future of young ones who are growing up in today’s challenging environment.

Ms Mulenga who also stood as independent Candidate for Kalulushi Constituency in the August elections celebrated women’s day with marketeers from across the District.

“We decided to celebrate this day with our elderly women from 60 years and above, as we thought of appreciating them on this day and probably learn one or two things from them as women'” she said.

She said despite the many challenges the elderly marketeers face, they have continued to sell in the markets for years which shows that they are strong women.

“Some women have shared that they started selling as far back as 1967 which is so inspiring to women who are not doing anything,” she said.

She said the old women have possed a challenge to young women waiting upon others for sustainability.

“Their perseverance is an inspiration and hope to us the younger women to continue pushing and working hard. If older women are still pushing, what more the younger ones?

“The Future is female so lets draw our inspiration from these old women who can teach us the way of life,” she said.
