Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Limited has awarded St Monica’s school girls that participated in the National Quiz competition in water supply and sanitation issues.
The company has also officially handed over the runners up trophy as well as K10, 000 cash to St Monica’s Girls Secondary School which came out second in the national quiz competition organized by NWASCO.
Speaking during the colorful awarding ceremony in Chipata, Eastern Province Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe said he was pleased by the performance of the school in the competition.
Dr Lingambe who was represented by the Senior Education Standards Officer in charge of Expressive Arts Harrison Phiri, said such extra-curricular activities must be embraced by all schools as they provide opportunities for pupils to express their natural talents.
He urged the pupils to work hard at school so that they may become future engineers who were going to run the water sector.
Meanwhile, Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Limited Acting Managing Director Aaron Mulinda said the company was committed to add value to society through its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
Mr Mulinda said the company will continue to partner with the education sector in order to mainstream water supply and sanitation issues.
He said Eastern Water was in the process of setting up WASH clubs in all schools so that pupils can start learning about water from a young age.
The Battle of the Brains Quiz competition is a brain child of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council which seeks to raise awareness of the Water Supply and Sanitation issues as well as encourage the girl child to take up careers in the water sector.
The company handed over blankets to all the participants in the quiz competition.
