Drowned Kitwe man’s body retrieved

The body of a 72-year-old man of Kitwe who committed suicide by diving in the Kafue River has been retrieved.

Ellison Lungu of Chipata Township, Kitwe committed suicide by diving into the Kafue River near Mopani water works on September 22, 2022 at 13:40 hours.

Brief facts are that the victim was recently fired as a watchman at unknown place of work, this made his wife Jessy Lungu 60, and children start disrespecting him at home.

Hence on September 22, 2022 at 12:00hrs he told his wife that it was time he took his life, he then started running towards the river.

The wife tried to call for help, but by the time people came, he had already jumped into Kafue River. The matter was reported to the Police, who visited the crime scene, and was informed that the victim dived into the river.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Sharon Zulu confirmed that the body of the late victim was discovered on September 26, 2022 at 14:45hrs by Samson Mutale 92, at Safer Pump Channel for Nkana Water and Mopani water works situated at Nkana East Kitwe.

Ms Zulu said the body has since been retrieved and taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary
