Education Minister David Mabumba has warned private schools in Chingola not to ask for exorbitant user fees from parents during the coronavirus period.
Mr Mabumba said private schools should not take e-learning as an opportunity to ask parents to pay full user fees as when pupils are learning in class.
He said there is a difference between when children are receiving learning in class and the one that they are providing now via various online platforms.
Mr Mabumba said that e-learning should be almost free because it is just a way of keeping the children busy and for them not to lag behind in their syllabus.
“I don’t want to hear that parents are being over charged or asked to pay full user fees when children are not going to school, yes parents can be asked to pay something to help with bundles and not a bigger amount or user fees no I will not agree to that,” he said.
The Minister said this last week when he toured schools in Chingola and meet up with Head Teaches and Senior teachers and other stakeholders in the District.
