Do not cultivate on river banks

Chilubi area Member of Parliament Rosaria Fundanga has called on people in her constituency to desist from cultivating their fields on the shores of Lake Bangweulu.

Speaking when she addressed people in her constituency whose cassava fields were recently flooded, Mrs. Fundanga said people should instead concentrate on growing their crops upland to avoid crop wastage.

She said it was sad that almost every year, the people of Chilubi loose their crops in floods because they cultivate their fields too close to the lake shore.

The Chilubi lawmaker who gave out packets of insecticides said the medicine should be used to fight termites which affect their crops.

And a representative from the department of agriculture Paul Musalu called on the people of Chilubi to fully utilize the donated medicines to spray in their fields.

Meanwhile, Mrs Fundanga has also donated bags of mealie meal, sugar, salt and beans to victims of the recent floods.

Some of the worst affected areas which include mostly villages from Chilubi Island are Kashitu, Kanchindu, Kapoka and Nsumbu, areas/ZANIS.
