The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released an initial K500,000 to Western Province to help contain the Contagious Bovine Pleural Pneumonia (CBPP) which has broken out in the Province.
The released financial resources have been sent to the Department of Livestock and Fisheries to roll out intervention measures to contain the disease.
DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe has since assured livestock farmers in Western Province that Government will provide more resources to ensure that livestock in all the 16 districts of Western Province are protected from this disease.
Mr Kabwe has also commended the provincial administration for reporting the disease outbreak early to enable quick response from the central government.
The initial funds are meant for the Department of Livestock and Fisheries to undertake sensitization activities for livestock farmers and sore surveillance to establish the extent of the disease in order to protect animals in the province.
All the 16 districts of Western Province have recorded cases of the Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia.
Meanwhile DMMU has sent an additional 2,000 metric tons of relief food to Western Province for distribution to all the flood affected areas.
The new consignment of relief food has been sent to the province after the visit by the Vice President Ms Inonge Wina who conducted an aerial view of the flood affected district in Western Province.
Mr Kabwe said Western Province is on the Government relief food program as it is one of the provinces affected by the floods.
Mr Kabwe has assured the people of Western Province who were affected by either floods or droughts that Government will continue to provide relief food support and other necessities required for their survival.
He said that DMMU will continued to distribute relief food to all the 64 districts that were affected by either floods or droughts in the 2019/2020 season and those who are experiencing floods in the 2020/2021 rainy season.
