The Office of the Vice President through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU has come to the aid of a 75-year old woman of Mazabuka District who appealed for assistance from well-wishers for her treatment and food supplies.
Esther Musole Silunda of Habwato village in Mwanachingwala’s Chiefdom has just been crawling for the past two years and complains of pains on her legs.
DMMU Southern Province Coordinator Esnart Makwakwa has confirmed that the couple received the much-needed help of food supplies and building materials from DMMU Monday.
“Among the items delivered to Silunda include 12 roofing sheets, 10 pockets of cement, 6 X 2 litres of cooking oil, 4 X 10 kilograms of mealie meal, 10 Kg bag of beans and 20 Kg bag of Kapenta”
“Besides the food stuffs and building materials, DMMU has given the senior citizen a wheelchair to help with mobility as she cannot move on her own.
Due to her incapacitation, the husband, Golbrown Chinyama Silunda does
all the house chores such as washing, cooking, bathes her and others duties.
The old couple live in a small grass-thatched hut in Habwato village that cannot withstand torrential rain hence the resolve by DMMU to donate building materials.
