Chief Musaka of Mushindamo district says he his saddened by the delay in rehabilitating Yowela day secondary school in the district.
Chief Musaka said the school structure was destroyed by heavy rains in 2019 since then it has remained unattended to by Government which has affected learning at the school.
“It is uncalled for that the only school in the area has been neglected and pupils are failing to learn because one classroom block has its roof blown off, there is no school at Yowela, aside the damaged one, the roofs are blown off, and when it rains, the pupils are running away for safety”, he said.
Chief Musaka also appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the school in order to restore order and improve learning at the school.
The Traditional Leader was speaking when a team of Government officials led by Mushindamo District Commissioner, Andrew Kalangwa paid a courtesy call at his palace.
Chief Musaka said that children have not been learning properly since 2019, which has hindered good performance because the environment is not conducive for learning.
And Mushindamo District education board secretary, Moses Lwanga said Government has set aside K200,000 from constituency development fund (CDF) 2021 allocation to rehabilitate the classroom block at the school.
Mr Lwanga said the CDF committee also recommended that a new structure be built instead of rehabilitating an old structure.
Meanwhile, Mushindamo district commissioner, Andrew Kalangwa said Yowela day secondary, Kakema and Kichile primary schools were affected by rains and had their roofs blown off.
Mr Kalangwa said Government will prioritize their rehabilitation so that learning continues to take place in these schools.
The District Commissioner assured the traditional leader that Government will attend to the needs of Yowela day school and improve the learning conditions.
