Diaspora policy coming-Simbyakula

By NAMUTENGA SAKAPILA
Government seeks to formulate diaspora policy aimed at engaging Zambians living in the diaspora on issues regarding duo citizenship and other developmental policies.

This will be done through the soon to be rolled out diaspora policy, Zambian High Commissioner to United States Ngosa Simbyakula has said.

Dr Simbyakula said government has recognised the importance of the Zambians living abroad, thereby rolling out the Diaspora Policy to engage Zambians in the diaspora to contribute to national development.

Dr Simbyakula was speaking during the commemoration of Zambia’s 54th Independence anniversary organized by the Association of Zambians in the tripartite State of District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia held in Rockville, Maryland.

“Government seeks to develop modalities on how to engage the Zambian diaspora on issues relating to dual citizenship, remittances, trade and investment, political participation and acquisition of land among others.

“And in recognizing the diaspora as key stakeholder in the country’s development, Government has developed a Diaspora Policy which will soon be rolled out. Some of the policies relating to this are now being actualized and Dual citizenship is a case in point,” he said.

He called on Zambians living in the diaspora to utilize the skills they have acquired to contribute to national development and urged them to live exemplary lives as Zambia’s first line ambassadors.

This according a media statement issued made available to The Independent Observer by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC Cosmas Chileshe.
